Australia lies in the southern hemisphere and covers 7,772,535 sq km (3,842,675 sq miles) of land. A continent, it is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west. More than 70 per cent of its 20 million population reside along the coastline with its more hospitable climate. The capital is Canberra.
Because the country is so vast its climate is variable. We will be looking at three different areas so will concentrate on them.
Sydney - the temperater rarely falls below 10c and summer temperatures can hit 40c, the average summer temperature is about 25c. Average rainfall is between 75 and 130mm.
Ayres Rock has temperatures of around 19c to 36c with rainfall between 8mm to 43mm.
Queensland has temperatures of around 26c to 32c with rainfall between 41mm to 422mm.
