Kuranda Scenic Railway

Kurunda Scenic Railway The world famous railway experience is a must-do when visiting Kuranda, journey through the wonderful rainforest of the Barron Gorge National Park , the original carriages are still in service today.  I would suggest go up on the Railway and come down on Skyrail.

Kuranda Village is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest. Visitors can travel to Kuranda on Kuranda's Historic Scenic Railway or by car or bus, via the spectacular Kuranda Range Road or over the rainforest on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Kuranda's shops and markets with their exotically handcrafted goods, Aboriginal artefacts, restaurants and coffee shops make Kuranda a well known day destination, visit some of Kuranda's many first class nature based tourist attractions, which include koalas, butterflies, native and exotic birds, kangaroos and reptiles. Don't miss the famous Barron Falls , which are breathtaking. You can also see traditional Aboriginal dancers perform, travel on a riverboat on the mighty Barron River .

Skyrail

Skyrail looking down on Scenic RailwaySkyrail Rainforest Cableway, is a world first in environmental tourism taking you on an amazing experience over Australia 's World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest canopy and deep into the forest. You glide just metres above the rainforest canopy in comfortable six-person gondola cabins. Enjoy the rainforest scenery, panoramic views and the Coral Sea . Alight at Skyrail's two rainforest mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls , where you can explore the boardwalks, scenic look-outs and in the state-of-the-art Rainforest Interpretation Centre .

Rainforestation Nature Park, a 40 hectare tourist attraction set in a midst of World Heritage Rainforest only five (5) minutes drive from Kuranda Village and half an hour from Cairns in Tropical North Queensland.

It has three attractions:

  • Army Ducks. Travel through the jungle and lake while your driver identifies and explains the many different species of flora and fauna found in the rainforest
  • Witness the half hour show of traditional dance taken place in the rainforest amphitheatre. The Pamagirri Corroboree's ancient songs about animals, food gathering and hunting as well as other aspects of their culture are accompanied by didgeridoo and clapsticks.
  • The Dreamtime Walk along the Rainbow Serpent walkway takes you through Aboriginal traditions, myths and legends. Watch the spear throwing or test your boomerang throwing skills
  • Wander through the Koala & Wildlife Park
